Tye was selected in the first round (15th overall) by the St. Louis Rams in the 2006 NFL Draft. A native of St. George, South Carolina, Tye displayed his athletic gifts both on the football field and track for Woodland High School in Dorchester.  As a running back for Woodland, he was named All-state as well as All-Low country both his junior and senior seasons.  He rushed for 1,445 yards and 16 touchdowns his senior year in just seven games.  After his senior year, he played in the South Carolina North-South All-Star game in Myrtle Beach.  He was named All-American by CBSSportsLine.com and Prep Star and was listed as one of the Top-20 players in the state by several writers.

Tye transitioned his speed on the football field to the track, as he was the state's 100-meter champion as a junior; with a time of 10.51 and the 400-meter champ as well, with a time of 49.0.  In large part due to Hill's victories, Woodland won the state track title at the AA level his junior year.  Tye turned down Auburn, North Carolina and South Carolina to become a Tiger and he did not disappoint.

College

Making the transition from running back to defensive back after his freshman season, Hill displayed his cover skills and eventually took over several records in the Clemson record books.  He set the Clemson record for pass breakups and tied the record for passes defended in a season in 2004.  After his senior season, he was named ESPN.com All-American and Walter Camp Football Foundation All-American and was a big reason the Tigers were 13th in the nation in scoring defense.  He finished his senior campaign with 54 total tackles, three interceptions, ten passes defended, and five tackles for loss, the most ever by a Clemson cornerback.  He was named a finalist for the Jim Thorpe award, which is annually given to the nation's top college defensive back.

Tye’s elite speed came to the forefront in his four years at Clemson. Tye holds the Clemson school record in 60 meters, with a time of 6.63 seconds. After his senior year, at the 2006 NFL scouting combine, Tye ran the fastest electronically timed 40 yard dash, 4.31 seconds.

Tye was a Human Resource Management major at Clemson.

Pro

2006

Tye started 10 games for the Rams in his rookie season, and he appeared in all 16 games. Tye started his NFL career with a bang by recording two tackles and an interception, in the season opener against the Broncos. On October 8, at Lambeau Field, Tye made his first career start, against the Green Bay Packers. Tye finished the season with 50 tackles and 3 interceptions. Tye’s successful rookie season was capped off by being named Rams Rookie of the Year.

2007

Tye’s 2007 campaign was shortened by injuries. Appearing in 8 games for the Rams, starting 7 of them, Tye totaled 35 tackles and 1 interception. However, that interception was instrumental in the Cardinals 13-7 victory over the Divisional rival 49ers, in San Francisco on November 18.

2008

Midway through the first quarter of the Rams week four match up with the Buffalo Bills, Tye was a tackling machine. With 6 tackles a piece in each of the first three games, Tye had already racked up two more in the first quarter of the Bills game. However, torn cartilage in his knee forced Tye to sit out the rest of the season. In four starts, Tye totaled 20 tackles, 2 pass deflections, and a forced fumble.
